Help Hold the Line Against Emerging Battlefield Threats

Thank you for taking action for battlefield preservation!

Thirty-five years ago, the modern battlefield preservation movement began, spurred by massive suburban growth that was decimating battlefields around Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Nashville and other cities.

Today, the threats are differentdeep-pocketed industries that demand huge data centers and distribution warehouses, sprawling solar farms and airport expansions — but the need to call for careful planning that balances the needs of modern life with respect for America’s past remains unchanged. Visit our Speak Out page to learn more about today's most pressing threats.

National Trust for Historic Preservation America's 11 Most Endangered Historic Places

On May 1, 2024, the National Trust for Historic Preservation placed two major battlefields — Minute Man National Historical Park and Wilderness Battlefield — on its annual list of the country's 11 Most Endangered Historic Places. In both cases, the Trust is coordinating with the relevant national park unit and local and regional partners on the threat.

The American Battlefield Trust is a leader in historic preservation advocacy, with a reputation for crafting win-win solutions, where possible, and fighting fiercely, when necessary. This work requires forging vibrant coalitions and maintaining strong relationships with activists within historic communities. It is critical and ongoing work, although it may not grab attention in the way a major land acquisition campaign does.

Your gift to support the Trust's advocacy work will help us continue to hold the line against inappropriate development on battlefields — just as we did when a casino was proposed for Gettysburg, a Walmart at the Wilderness or townhouses at Princeton. Please support this work today!
