You Can Help Save 2,500 Acres of Revolutionary War Battlefield Land

“In protecting and interpreting Revolutionary War battlefields, we ensure the current and future generations of Americans retain tangible links to our nation’s founding era.”

David Duncan, American Battlefield Trust President

To act as an enduring legacy of the 250th anniversary of America’s struggle for independence, the American Battlefield Trust has embarked on a national campaign to preserve 2,500 acres of Revolutionary War battlefield land. Many of these battlefields are threatened by development and 30 percent have already been lost to history.

Our history shapes who we are as Americans. It can serve as a powerful lesson and inspire tomorrow’s leaders, but only if preserved.

The Trust has identified tracts of land on dozens of battlefields that could be pursued toward this preservation goal, ultimately working with willing sellers to save these places. We estimate that the project could take a decade to complete, mirroring the duration of the war’s anniversary. It may ultimately cost up to $39 million, with the Trust applying for project-specific, competitively awarded federal grant funding to leverage against matching dollars from state and local government grants and private sector donations, etc. But donor support is vital and what these Revolutionary preservation projects will ultimately depend upon!
