The Civil War Animated Map: Traditional Middle School Lesson Plan

Goal: Students will be able to discuss the overarching causes and outcomes of the Civil War.
Objectives:
- Students will be able to identify events leading up to the Civil War.
- Students will be able to identify key battles and events during the Civil War.
- Students will be able to identify the outcomes of the Civil War.

Materials:
- Civil War Animated Map (Run time 27:28)
- Civil War Animated Map Questions
- Civil War Animated Map Teacher Answer Key
- Optional-Civil War Animated Map Questions in Answerable PDF
Anticipatory Set/Hook
- Queue the Civil War Animated Map for viewing or have students queue the map on the personal devices.
- Have the students complete the questions as they view the Civil War Animated Map or after they have viewed the map.
- Discuss the answers to the questions as a class.
Procedure:
Print out or download the Animated Civil War Map questions, and make sure that the Animated Civil War Map is available to all students.
Activity 1
- Hand out or distribute the Civil War Animated Map questions.
- Have your students watch the Civil War Animated Map.
- Have your students answer the questions.
- Discuss the questions as a class.
Closure:
Collect the students question forms for grading or discuss the question answers as a class.
