Partner Event
April 19, 2025 @ 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM EDT

Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park
Fort Oglethorpe, GA 30742

Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will host a ranger-guided, 2-hour Civil War miniature painting class at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center to celebrate Junior Ranger Day and the kickoff of National Park Week. Up to 30 participants can sign up for this free event to learn how to paint their own Civil War miniature soldier. While painting their miniatures, participants will learn about a Civil War soldier’s uniform, equipment, and weapons. All paints, brushes, and miniatures will be provided, and participants will be able to take home their painted miniature following the class! No painting experience is necessary, and children are welcome to participate with an accompanying adult. To reserve a spot for this event, contact ranger Luke Dixon at luke_dixon@nps.gov.

In addition to the painting class, rangers will lead a 90-minute car caravan tour of Chickamauga Battlefield at 10 am and a special 1-hour program on the Works Progress Administration and the creation of the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center building at 2 pm.

The entrance fee to Point Park on Lookout Mountain will also be waived on Saturday, April 19, and rangers will lead three free 45-minute walking tours of Point Park discussing the Battles for Chattanooga at 11 am, 2 pm, and 4 pm. Come join us as we celebrate Junior Ranger Day and National Park Week!
