Enjoy family-focused holiday fun in historic Lower Town at Harpers Ferry NHP! This event includes demonstrations of firing historic weapons. Please expect loud noices, and prepare children and pets.
11-2:00: Horse-drawn carriage rides along the Shenandoah River, courtesy of our partner, the Harpers Ferry Park Association.
11-2:00: Discover the importance of trains in Harpers Ferry history with a model train display and stories throughout Harpers Ferry's history.
11-4:00: Enjoy the town coming to life in 1864 through volunteers and staff dressed in clothing from the Civil War era. This event resurrects "Captain Flagg's Quartermaster City," allowing visitors to picture what Harpers Ferry was like as the holidays approached, but the ongoing Civil War still impacted every day life.
12-3:00: Make a 19th century-style ornament to take home. Make real tin tinsel, tin spiral decorations, and edible ornaments for your tree.
1-3:00: Stop in to see how hand-made goods were created and donated to help sustain the U.S. Army. Watch a sewing demonstration of a historic pattern of slippers that were given to the sick and wounded soldiers by women all across the country.
2-3:00: Even during the holidays, Army life continued. See the drill soldiers performed every day of the year, including the loading and firing of their weapons.
3-5:00: Grand Military & Citizens Ball. No dancing skills required! Join the 34th Massachusetts Officers and their wives as they host a Victorian Dance. Dance instruction provided by the Victorian Dance Ensemble to period dance music.
