For More Information
Meeting place
Meet at the Moring Attack Trails on the Cedar Creek Battlefield. Turn onto Long Meadow Road, just south of the Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation Museum & Visitor Center along US 11. Parking will be along Claven Lane. National Park Service event signs will be placed at all turns to direct volunteers to the meeting location. Please arrive between 9:30 am - 9:45 am.
Planned Activities
Volunteers will assist with the removal of invasive plants along the Morning Attack Trails and in the vicinity of the 8th Vermont Monument. There may also be additional trail maintenance projects to help improve the visitor experience. This ridgeline is preserved by the National Park Service. In October of 1864 the location was the campsite of the Federal soldiers under the command of Colonel Rutherford B. Hayes. It was the scene of intense fighting during the Battle of Cedar Creek.
History or Educational Activities
At the beginning of the event a National Park Service ranger will present a short talk about the significance of the site and the National Park Service's efforts to preserve it. Throughout the event, natural resource specialists will be available to help identify the targeted invasive plants.
Should I bring any tools or supplies?
While small hand tools and work gloves will be provided, volunteers are encouraged to bring their own. Wear closed-toe shoes and long pants. Terrain may be uneven so wear sturdy and comfortable shoes. Sunscreen, bug spray, and a water bottle are recommended.
Is there a rain date?
In the instance of inclement weather, Park Day will be cancelled.
Please note
No restrooms are available at the project location. Both the National Park Service Visitor Center and Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation Museum & Visitor Center have public restroom facilities. They are a short drive from the project location.

Pre-registration is not required but encouraged. Information about registration can be found here: www.nps.gov/cebe/getinvolved/volunteer
