For More Information
Meeting place
Volunteers should meet at 8:45 a.m. at the Guilford Courthouse National Military Park Visitor Center (2332 New Garden Rd, Greensboro, NC 27410).

Parking is available at the visitor center. If the visitor center parking lot is full, please park in the overflow lot at the intersection of New Garden Road and Old Battleground Road.
Planned Activities
Volunteers will assist in constructing split rail fences. These structures were common in eighteenth-century America and played a role in the strategic formation of North Carolina Militia troops on the first line at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. Today, the fences serve as an interpretive tool and reminder of the land's history.

At the start of the day, park staff will give a 15-minute interpretive program on the Battle of Guilford Courthouse and the site's history as a National Military Park.

Volunteers will then receive a five-minute orientation and training on the service project. At this time, volunteers who have not signed a Volunteer Service Agreement beforehand will sign Service Agreements.

The service project involves the construction of split rail fences. Physical requirements include team lifting weights of up to 25 lbs, walking on a paved incline for ¼ miles, and walking on uneven surfaces.
History or Educational Activities
At the start of service, park staff will give a 15-minute historical overview of the Battle of Guilford Courthouse and the formation and legacy of Guilford Courthouse National Military Park.
Should I bring any tools or supplies?
Volunteers should bring a water bottle. Water fountains are available in the Visitor Center and throughout the park.

Guilford Courthouse NMP has a limited supply of work gloves, which we will distribute on a first-come, first-served basis. Volunteers are encouraged to bring personal work gloves.

Volunteers should dress comfortably and are required to wear closed-toed shoes.
Is there a rain date?
In the instance of inclement weather, Park Day will be moved to Saturday, May 3, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Please note
All volunteers must review and sign a Volunteer Service Agreement (VSA) before the start of service.

A parent or legal guardian must sign the VSA for volunteers under 18.

Volunteer Group Leaders may review and sign a single Group VSA on behalf of their group. If a volunteer group has any members under 18, they must review and sign separately.
