For More Information
Meeting place
We will be meeting at the newly acquired battlefield land which is also the site of the old Kirkwood Hotel. (There is a knee-high curved brick wall just off the road which is a remnant of the hotel.) Meeting time will be 9AM, park along the street.
Planned Activities
We will continue clearing the lot of overgrown vines and bamboo, removing sticks and vegetation, and picking up trash. We will also clear all vegetation around the ruins from the Kirkwood Hotel. Volunteers who participate will receive a Historic Camden t-shirt.
History or Educational Activities
Volunteers can stay for a free educational talk on the Battle of Hobkirk Hill, which was the impetus for the British Army evacuating Camden after a year of occupation.
Should I bring any tools or supplies?
We will provide water and some tools, however we would be grateful if some volunteers would be willing to bring loppers and rakes. We recommend bringing work gloves and wearing sturdy shoes.
Is there a rain date?
In the instance of inclement weather, Park Day will continue as planned.
Please note
The battlefield is on uneven ground and does not yet have trails, which may make it difficult for volunteers with limited mobility. There are also no bathroom facilities available at the battlefield.
