For More Information
Meeting place
The house was built in 1835. Since 1941, Oakley Park has been open to the public. The property contains the main house, kitchen house, well house and outhouse. The grounds, deemed for use as a public park, encompass nearly 7 acres that was greatly changed by Hurricane Helene. The property is adjacent to the town park and tennis and pickleball courts and is less than a mile from the town square.
Planned Activities
We invite volunteers to have a brief tour of the house and then be assigned to groups to complete light grounds work (raking, gardening), building trails through open woodlands, installing signage and possibly minor repairs, painting and staining to outdoor buildings.
History or Educational Activities
Our volunteers will lead a tour of the house encompassing historic events from 1835 to 1876.
