Meeting place
Volunteers should arrive about 15 minutes early to complete the Volunteer Service Agreement required to volunteer with the National Park Service. The meeting place is just past Stop 8 (Crater Battlefield) along the Eastern Front Tour Road. Park in the left lane.
Planned Activities
Volunteers will help restore a portion of the battlefield by removing an obsolete maintenance road, wooden planks that were used to take vehicles across wet areas from the field near the Crater Battlefield. Tasks include using hand tools (pry bars, shovels, hammers, etc) to break apart the wood components, and collecting the debris into truck beds.
History or Educational Activities
Before the projects begin, there will be a short discussion of the Battle of the Crater.
If volunteers want to learn more, at 2:30 pm, there will be a Ranger guided program of the Battle of the Crater.
