History or Educational Activities
At about noon on July 1, 1863, First Corps commander Maj. Gen. Abner Doubleday instructed United States infantry to construct a “barricade of rails” along Seminary Ridge as “a precautionary measure,” in the event of a Confederate attack. Hear firsthand accounts from soldiers who built—and later defended—the iconic wooden breastwork. This approximately 30-minute program, led by Codie Eash, Director of Education and Interpretation, will be available for volunteers at the conclusion of Park Day activities.
Should I bring any tools or supplies?
We recommend that volunteers bring their own work gloves. All other supplies necessary to complete work activities will be provided.
Is there a rain date?
In the instance of inclement weather, Park Day will be moved to Saturday, May 24.
Please note
Park in the lot labeled "Event & Museum Parking."
