This cartoon shows a "Confederate" cat (with the name "Jeff" on his collar to represent Confederate President Jefferson Davis) attempting to upset the "Union" cat. A third cat appears to help the Union cat, with the word "Contraband" on its collar, and stands next to a bottle of "The Great Remedy" which symbolizes the Emancipation Proclamation as the remedy that will help the Union win the war.
