Autosse

Macon County, AL  |  Nov 29, 1813

On the morning of November 29, 1813, 950 Georgia militia and 300-400 allied Creeks under the command of Brig. Gen. John Floyd attacked the Red Stick Village of Autosse. Floyd’s forces were able to drive the Red Stick warriors from the village and destroy the two villages associated with Autosse.

The attack and complete destruction of the large Creek town of Atasi and an adjacent town was a severe blow to the Upper Creeks. It struck at the heart of their population center and had a demoralizing effect and led to feelings of doubt about the validity of the prophet movement. The Creeks lost two important chiefs in this battle.
