Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield commemorates and interprets the battle within the context of the war in the west. Much of the battlefield has been preserved. The Park, with a visitor center and museum, just 3 miles east of Republic, Missouri, contains a 4.9 mile driving tour, 5 walking trails, and a 7-mile horse trail. Next door is the John K. and Ruth Hulston Civil War Research Library with approximately 12,000 volumes concentrating on the Civil War period and the Civil War in the Trans-Mississippi Theater.
