Great Bridge Battlefield

Explore the first American victory of the Revolutionary War on December 9, 1775 at the Great Bridge Battlefield run by the Great Bridge Battlefield & Waterways History Foundation. The Park is home to a historic interpretive pathway, an outdoor amphitheater, a recreation of the causeway from 1775, and a family picnic area.  At the Park, learn about William Flora, a free Black man, who ran back to take up a plank of the bridge amid a shower of musket balls to slow the British advance.
