The B&O Railroad at Mount Clare Station and its right-of-way provided a vital transportation hub for the Union Army. Situated next to Camp Carroll, Baltimore's largest Union encampment, the B&O was a major industrial resource that allowed a constant flow of munitions, troops, and supplies to both Washington D.C. and strategic points along the Main Line, which extended to the Ohio River.
