At Brice's Cross Roads in June 1864, a battle was fought that served to keep Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest from altering the supply line that was essential to the success of Union General William T. Sherman. While considered a Confederate victory, Sherman persevered and went on to win the Atlanta campaign. Brice's Crossroads was the greatest strategic victory the war would produce, and ranks with such battles in military history as Cannae, the Cowpens, and Tobruk.
