The cemetery contains gravesites of Confederate soldiers who died during the 1863 Battle of Helena, as well as the graves of soldiers who died during other engagements in eastern Arkansas. The cemetery is also the final resting place of Confederate Gen. Patrick Cleburne, who was killed at the Battle of Franklin, Tennessee.
