Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall opened in 1910 to commemorate Allegheny County veterans who served in the Civil War. The museum's Civil War holdings include flags, uniforms, weapons, battlefield memorabilia, photographs, artwork, and an extensive collection of GAR post records. Bronze Plaques listing all Allegheny County Civil War Veterans add to the museum's holdings. Memorial Hall's military collection spans the period from the 1860s to the War in Iraq, and also contains a Hall of Valor, honoring area residents who earned the Silver Star or higher decorations in American wars.
