Strategically important on the route to Richmond, Spotsylvania Court House was the scene of one of the bloodiest engagements of the war. The Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, one of four Civil War battles that occurred in Spotsylvania County, marked the beginning of the fall of the Confederacy.
